Moon Bass

About

I created this site to host recordings of my weekly radio show, which airs in Missoula Montana every Wednesday night from 10-12am on 89.9FM, KBGA.  I’ll probably upload some other audio oddities as well.

Here’s a little bit more about me:

I bought my first set of turntables in 1993. I took a bunch of MIDI courses in 1994-95. Moon Bass started in 1996 as a show on KUGS, ran for 3 years, and is the origin of Kris “Moon”. I then moved to Seattle and worked at Guitar Center for a couple years, amassing gear for the “Ghetto Den”, my first studio. I helped run a club night called Focus/Blur in 1999, where the Division List was created as a sign up sheet at the front door. Zion’s Gate Records hired me in 2000, and I stayed there for 5 years as a buyer, bringing in many of the tunes that were played at the techno night Robotrash, where i was a resident for 2 years. I helped pioneer the Laptop Battle concept in 2003 along with Fourthcity, and held the first ever National Battle in 2004. The Decibel Festival had it’s first year in 2004, I was the Educational Director for 3 years, and the Production Manager in 2007. In 2005 Red Bull Music Academy chose Seattle as it’s location, and I was employed as the local liaison for the participants from all over the world. In 2006 I started the first Ableton User Group in Seattle, and won the Battle of the Mega Mixes with a set that included 17 records in 10 minutes. During this entire period, 1999-2008, I played Top 40 at the Ballroom in Fremont every weekend…a man’s got to pay the bills! In 2008 i moved to Missoula, Montana, where I am currently buying for Earcandy Records and residing at the Badlander on Saturdays. 2009 saw the launch of this page, which features the mixes from the return of Moon Bass. The Division List continues to be a steady source of info for the electronic music community in Seattle, and I traveled back to Seattle to throw the 7th Laptop Battle in 2009. Thanks for listening….

Bio

Since moving to Seattle in 1998 and landing a job at Capitol Hill record shop Zion’s Gate, Kris Moon has established himself as a versatile DJ with impeccable taste. He went on to help shape the legendary, electro-debauched Robo.trash night and elevate the laptop-battle concept to global recognition while winning two of the competitions himself. Besides his frenetic itinerary behind Ableton Live interfaces and Technics, Moon also oversees the educational component of the Decibel Festival. As a DJ, Moon has blown minds with his deep techno, dub, jungle, and even Top-40 hiphop… For all his DJ feats, though, Moon may be even more dope as a producer. His opening sets for world-class techno artists Octave One and Richie Hawtin elevated Moon to VIP status in many observers’ ears. Moon’s new Kriegspiel Music CD-R reflects his fathoms-deep version of minimal techno, proving his adept assimilation of a most cerebral and chilled take on this Detroit-via-Berlin track construction. // DAVE SEGAL, condensed from the March 15, 2006 ..Data Breaker.. column in The Stranger. //
